We provided verified views (wirelines and rendered images) for a brownfield development of 4 to 11 storey buildings in one of Brighton and Hove’s tall building zones. The image above is a rendered image of the proposal viewed from the east side of Hove Park, near the junction of The Droveway with Goldstone Crescent. The proposal was consented in spring 2020.

We prepared the landscape and visual impact assessment (LVIA) and advised on appropriate landscape mitigation for a commercial-scale AD plant in Sussex. We have been involved in similar schemes in Shropshire and Staffordshire.

The Falmer Avenue site is right on the boundary of the South Downs National Park. The proposal is for 36 new homes. The image above was produced to AVR level 2 for a full planning application.

Our work on the Saltdean project included giving evidence to the public inquiry. The Inspector considered that the main issue for this housing scheme was the impact on the character of the surrounding area and the landscape of the South Downs National Park, the site being directly on the boundary of the Park.

The Inspector’s decision to allow the development was aligned to our evidence that the development would not harm the surrounding area and would improve the existing urban edge: ‘There would be no harm to the setting of the National Park as the settlement edge would be a softer and more filtered form and be improved from the stark and abrupt change that is evident in the immediate surroundings at present.

In recent years we have worked on multiple residential schemes in different urban fringe and sensitive landscape locations in and around London and the South-east. The schemes range in scale from single ‘paragraph 55’ houses to 250+ unit masterplanned developments.

We prepared the Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) and produced verified views for a residential development at a gateway site on the edge of Hove and the South Downs National Park. Our work involved consultation with local authority planning officers and the County landscape architect. Our work helped to demonstrate that the architectural response to the site was sensitive to the wider landscape setting.

Wind Energy Projects, South-West England

We have been involved with many wind energy projects in the South-west. The above photomontage shows a 500kW EWT Directwind 54 turbine (77m to blade tip) near Boyton in Cornwall which was consented in 2013.

We have been involved with fifteen similar projects in Cornwall, Devon, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire. Our scope of services for wind and renewable energy projects can include feasibility/capacity and site design work, LVIA, and producing zone of theoretical visibility (ZTV) maps and visualisations (wireframes and rendered photomontages) in adherence to Scottish Natural Heritage’s Visual Representation of Windfarms standards. On many projects we consult with local planning authorities and third parties. We also provide services in connection with planning appeals.
